Warmer Weather and Walnut Aftermath

*Note: This post was written a couple of weeks ago, in between the events of this post and the current date we have been experiencing more Polar Vortex wrath and we have not made any more snow people.

The weather finally turned warmer and we realized that the snow might just be right for a snowman. This was about the first day of the winter when making a snowman was possible and we decided to go for it.  The kids were not as thrilled to make the snowman as we were.  They sort of watched us.   T was excited when we were finished and was willing to pose with our creation.

I tried to get a few views of our backyard forest that the walnut tree created.  The pictures do not fully capture the amount of branches we have in our yard.  The small forest as created an increase of creatures in our backyard as well.  We don't see many of them, but we do see what they leave behind :)  We have noticed a HUGE increase in our bird population.  The kids and I love watching the birds fly in big flocks to and from the feeder. I attempted to count them and only being about to see part of the yard I counted over 40... and I could not even see the feeder.  It is safe to say over 50 finches have made their home in our back yard. It is a treasure to see them fly and hear them sing.  They keep us smiling and regulated and I am thankful for them. Yes, it is true... I hope the branches stick around for the winter so our big finch flock isn't homeless.

We had an ice storm here a few days before these photos were taken.  M and T went with Brandon to visit someone in a nursing home.  As Brandon stepped outside he realized that the rainy weather had shifted to ice.  He was about to turn around to reach for M's hand when M fell hard on to the concrete.  Brandon said the sound of his head hitting was horrible.  Thankfully, besides a big bump he was physically fine.  Emotionally he was quite shaken.  He now insists on being carried or holding our hand when he is walking outdoors.  For added protection he wears his football helmet.  You will notice the helmet in the photos below.

One of the branch forests.

Another branch forest!

M: My head is safe now!

T: Yum, nothing tastes better than old yellow snow.  (Oh dear)

M: This is as close to the snowman as I am getting Mom.

T: "Whoa" this is a cool snowman.  Check out my shovel!
