Triple Fun! Museum, Street Car, Candy Factory!

We had a GREAT triple fun day trip in August.  We couldn't make it work in a Monday Funday so we recruited our great friend E to join us for the fun.  She is amazing with the kids and they love her so much.

We started the day driving though an intense rain storm.  The museum and other attractions were over an hour away due to the heavy rain and slow traffic.  We endured and made it to the museum after the children's programming had already begun.  As it turns out, my kids were not into the planned program anyway.  They were eager to explore.

The museum is sort of a living history of this area of of our state.  It is very well done for a small town museum.

M: The place we are standing used to be underwater!!!  We had to hold our breath!
As I was walking I encountered a few scary beasts!
Check out the size of this big boy, yikes!  T: I wanted to give it a hug!
M: This guy was HUGE!
See, I was there too!
M: I loved seeing all of the Native American stuff.  I asked lots of questions.
M and T: Mommy said we couldn't go in the fountain, but we still smiled!
After touring the museum we checked out this awesome children's area they have.  So many things to do.  The whole museum was free!!!

Next up with the street car.  Most people know how much I love Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.  Driving on the trolley felt just like we were imported into the show, even the bell sounded the same.  The kids just loved it and the driver was a hoot!  It is super cheap to ride.  I think it cost the four of us $2.00.  We got their early so we had extra time to take pictures!

M: We just couldn't decide where to sit.

We decided to get out for a minute to take a picture next to the street car.
M and T: We sure love E!
The second seating option, way at the back!
Once we started the adventure M was fascinated and asked lots of questions.  T decided it was a great time to work on a free coloring book she found in the van.  Oh how different my children's personalities are!

T: This looks like a good place to get some work done.  M: How do you ring the bell?

After our street car ride we went to a candy distribution center.  We got to ride another type of train and watch movies all about the making of jelly beans.  The kids learned a lot, but the liked the free samples and the sample counter the best.  They loved watching people try the nasty flavors like vomit and sour milk.  Apparently they taste like the real deal, nasty!

M: We had to wear these on our heads the whole time.
Ready to rock!
We had a great morning/afternoon of adventure.
After all the fun we decided to stop at Trader Joe's on the way home.  In hindsight this was not a great idea, but we made it through and home safely, had lunch and got T to bed and life was good again!  I am so thankful for our day trip and already dreaming ahead to next summer and another trip to this community to hit up a couple of the museums we didn't get a chance to see.
