Summer Vacation Week Three!

Week three of summer vacation was a pretty typical week for us.  We followed the basic schedule of week two, though we had a couple of more interesting days.

6/22 Monday - M was making crazy faces so he asked if I could take a picture so he could see them.  He was shocked by the face he created.

M: I am more talented than I thought I was!

6/23 Tuesday -

T sometimes tries to sneak Sunshine up on her lap during prayer time.  He is a big guy on her little lap!

Sunshine:  I love T, but this isn't very comfortable.

On Tuesday  we managed to do this 300 piece puzzle in just one afternoon.  We all love to puzzle and it was fun to have a puzzle we could do in one setting.

I told them to put their heads closer to the puzzle and they sure listened haha.

On Tuesday afternoon T created this jump in the basement.  She could clear 7 blocks and then flip with no problem!  She goes very fast, so every picture is a blur.

Over she goes...

and flip!

6/24 Wednesday - On Wednesday we finally had M's infectious disease appointment.  It went very well.  We were with the Dr for an hour and then went and has blood draws at the lab.  M had to have 9 vials of blood.  He was so grown up and wasn't phased at all.  Sadly, with all the testing they did, nothing glaring came back as the cause for the fevers.  Some blood levels were lower or higher than normal, but they all basically just indicate that his body is fighting something.  We did learn that sometime in his life he has had Mono since he has the antibody for it.  I wonder when he had it.

A superhero with a matching mask.

On Wednesday evening we went to the Park preview night.  The kids wanted to see what it would be like, and even with social distancing, they were eager to start it on June 29th.  I didn't take any pics on Thursday, but I am sure we did some fun things. I believe this is the day we started a new puzzle, a very tricky one.  We are still working on it.  T became frustrated with it and she began her own 550 piece puzzle which she is still working on as well.

6/26 Friday - On Friday we needed a change up of things so I went over to church and grabbed the magnetiles from nurseries so we could use them at home.  We are keeping them separated from ours so they will be easy to return to the nursery when needed.

Brothers, happy together.

Buttercup:  I found a spot where they will never find me!

T: Do you like my awesome princess hotel?

6/27 Saturday -
The weekend began with my Magnatile creations.  M designed this plane without looking at a guide.  This is the first thing he has made without following a guide which is very exciting to me.

M: My plane!

M: It can be a bird or something else.

T: This is an even better palace for my princesses.

That afternoon M decided to build a pretty challenging creation in the basement.  While we were building and playing Brandon was officiating his first COVID wedding.  It was a very scaled back wedding.  Only 6 total people were there including Brandon and the bride and groom.  The wedding took place in the Fireside room of our new addition and it turned out to be a very lovely setting.

M: Do you like it?

On Saturday afternoon we had a very fun delivery arrive at our house.  M is hoping to begin band this fall.  He is going to play percussion.  He has been taking virtual piano lessons this spring/summer.  He was very excited to try his piano skills on the bells and to practice drumming on his practice pad.

It is a pretty cool little set up.
M: I moved the drum to the stand after this picture.

After playing with the new instruments the kids took baths and I prepped dinner.  Brandon took the kids to a nearby park for some baseball.

T:  I will never be too big for these PJ's.

Tree climbing teamwork.

Super T!

After dinner time we told the kids some exciting news.  I started the sentence with "We have been invited" and that is all the farther I got.  We have not gone anywhere or done anything with anyone for so long that me just saying those few words had them more excited than a great Christmas present.  They soon learned that we had been invited to Charissa's house for a campfire and then to watch fireworks.  Our community, and most near us, canceled fireworks this year. We were excited to be able to see them around the 4th and glad to spend time with friends.  We talked with the kids A LOT about social distancing.  The did fairly well.  T wore a mask for most of the time.  M was smiling the whole time.  He was so thankful to be with a classmate and friend.  He and L have been friends since they were babies.  It is so sweet to see them both so happy to be together.

Interestingly, on the way to our friend's home we observed a huge party going on at a venue near their home.  There were so many people (hundreds).  It was wild to see the lack of care for social distancing or face coverings.  I know it deeply impacted our family.  Seeing the crowds felt much like seeing the extreme situations in third world countries for the first time.  Our eyes couldn't believe what we were seeing.

Once at our friends house we enjoyed a couple of hours of play before the fireworks.

Getting ready for "Dare Devil" (M is about to jump over them) which is a game they love to play.

There he goes!

Fireworks are LATE at night.  Morale was pretty low from the young female in the house.  Emotions were high.  The fireworks time was stressful.  She did OK for a while bouncing on the trampoline, but then went into the car and struggled to remain regulated.

T:  Everyone was talking and not watching the fireworks!

After we got home there were threats to run away.  It was a pretty stressful evening and had us wondering if we made the right choice to go.  Thankfully, M was so happy that it made us happier.

6/28 Sunday - On Sunday the kids slept in until online church time.  After online church there was more building and breakfast eating.

Are you impressed?

How about now?

T got ahold of my phone and too an insane number of selfies!

T: I thought you would like to see these on your phone, mom!

Buttercup:  Why do you always take pictures of me?

T really dressed up for outdoor service.  She has started to sing out loud during the songs.  M does not appreciate this, but every single other person does!

Sometimes they get along!

Brandon and the kids were playing/working in the basement in the afternoon.  Brandon found a padlock and taught M how to open it.  I think M was very thankful to be learning this skill before middle school.  Who knows if they will use lockers this year, but if they do, he will be ready.

M: First dad showed me how to open it.

M: Then I tried it... and...
M: ...it worked!  I opened it!

While M was learning how to open a lock, T was making a rocket ship.  She loves empty boxes and tries to claim all she can.
T: This is my amazing rocket ship!

It says, "Bambas  Whole 30 Vegan Garunteed" (Bamba's are a favorite snack)

The rocket control center.

After playing in the basement our whole family decided to go for a bike ride.  We headed towards a friend's house on the outskirts of town.  We ended up talking to the wife for quite a while.  They have a pond area and T worked hard trying to catch frogs.  She got soaking wet and was very eager to get home, take an additional shower, and put on cozy clothes.  It was a very good and active Sunday which was needed to keep us all awake and joyful after our late night on Saturday.
