Surgery part two (Week 11)

Last Tuesday (May 26th) Brandon had his second surgery to repair his retina detachment.  As I mentioned in a previous post, the oil they put in his eye after the first surgery had begun to leak and the second surgery needed to happen sooner rather than later.  I am happy to report that Brandon's surgery and initial recovery went very well.  They replaced the oil with a gas bubble and he had to be face down Tues-Thurs so really only 2.5 days which was much better than last time.

I think everything went more smoothly because Brandon knew what to expect and the initial recovery was shorter.

We are now one week and three days into recovery and the gas bubble is getting smaller.  The vision coming back is quite blurry, so we are very curious to see what the Dr. will say at the follow up next Wednesday.  We are praying that he will regain all of the eyesight he had prior to the tears and detachment.

This surgery was different than the previous surgery, because the kids were not at school.  We spent a lot of time figuring out how to make the day work with kids at home.  Ultimately, the kids and I ended up dropping Brandon off for pre-op early in the morning (8:30) and then coming home and doing school and our normal day and then heading back to pick him up after the nurse called post op.  The hospital was only 40 minutes away.  We rewarded the kids with a movie during the second trip down.  They were able to continue the movie as we waited for Brandon.  We were not prepared for the intense heat we experienced while waiting for him.  I had to keep the van on to run the air which is rare for our area!

Proof that it was really 90 degrees!!!

After picking Brandon up and heading north and east towards the Lake we enjoyed watching the temps drop more and more.  We all guessed how low it would be at our house, but were still surprised by the coolness of our neighborhood.  No wonder we were wearing pants!

68 in our neighborhood!

According to T, 68 was plenty warm to get out the sprinkler and have some fun.

T: I just turned it on a little bit.

After she was all cozy and warmed up she and Brandon played a round of Exploding Kittens.  T loves this game and Brandon was easily able to play while keeping his face down.

T: Daddy and I love this game!
