Our piano arrived! (Week 7)

Last Tuesday was quite an exciting day at our house.  It was a day that was long in coming.  For a few years we have been talking about having a piano in our home.  We had a couple of piano situations fall through and we just waited.  Last spring we were talking with friends who said they were ready to part with their piano.  We eagerly said we would take it.

Months and months past and the business of life happened.  The couple who offered us the piano ended up buying a smaller home.  They set their moving date for April 30th, so that meant we received the piano on April 30th.

Four movers carried it up our driveway and stairs.  Impressive!  We worked hard to ignore their lack of masks. We tried to stay back as much as we could and then opened the window after they left.

Here they come!
T: This is the best day ever!
Both cats were very curious about the piano and accidentally did their own recitals.  The kids think this is hilarious.

Buttercup:  I like to play piano too!
Brandon took many years of piano growing up.  He and T are so sweet together.  She sings and he plays.  His poor vision makes reading the hymnal tricky and she struggles to follow along and keep tempo.  Their concerts are very so special.  They also enjoy playing "Hot Cross Buns" duets.

T: I love doing special things with Dad!

T: "Gather everyone.  Please feel free to clap during the show."  (This is what she was actually saying)

M is planning to begin band in the fall.  Actually, he was planning to take beginning band over the summer, but that isn't looking realistic at this point.  He is going to do percussion, but hasn't had any piano lessons yet.  Charissa's son L is also doing percussion.  Charissa is teaching both boys an accelerated piano program (over Zoom).  They started last week.  It could take quite a while for the books to arrive as they are not essential Amazon items, but we have note flashcards and Brandon sat down with M tonight and quizzed him on the bass clef keys and he did very well.  He learns things so quickly.  I played the saxophone from 5-12th grade, so I really only know treble clef.  I am thankful that piano is something that Brandon and M can do together.

There is a lot of chaos with the piano.  There is a lot of fighting about who gets to play it, when and how... BUT I am oh so thankful for the beginning of this piano adventure and I truly believe it will bring about countless blessings for our family.

M: Finding "middle C" is super important in piano!
