Science Fair

On top of the craziness of Brandon's surgery and getting things set for Celebration Sunday, we knew that we also had to tackle his science project that weekend.  Brandon has lots of science experience and he had big ideas for the project.  They were great ideas, but a lot more intense than we had the ability, time or knowledge to execute.

We decided to do a project on Static Electricity.  M charged a balloon on his head for different amounts of rubs and saw how many pieces of puffed rice he picked up.  He learned that the amount of rubbing doesn't actually effect the amount of pieces picked up.

The materials

Charging the balloon

Picking up the rice puffs while mom records.

Using a dryer sheet between each test to remove static.
Sadly, the experiment was just a small part of the project.  Having him type the procedure was a painfully long process.  I wonder what his speed would be like today after all of the school on the computer.  I imagine his typing skills have become faster.  Once the typing was done it was time for the cutting and the gluing.  M got to use the paper cutter at church and managed to not lose a single finger!  His finished product looked very professional and I think he was quite proud of how it all turned out.

M:  Here is my finished project.

A closer look at his masterpiece.
